A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE Interview
17 minutes with Academy Award® winners Volker Bertelmann & Kirk Baxter
“The film needs to feel witnessed, not crafted. So, the sense of honesty in it needs to come through.”
Kirk Baxter
“Music can help to make it a little more accessible. You have to find the points where you can go a little more melodic and just open up the heart of the audience.”
Volker Bertelmann
Volker Bertelmann and Kirk Baxter
Meet composer Volker Bertelmann (All Quiet on the Western Front, Conclave, Ammonite, Lion) and editor Kirk Baxter (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), the two creative powerhouses behind the score and editing of acclaimed filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow's cinematic masterpiece A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE.
When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond. The film is both a thriller and a cautionary tale. The music and the editing are fundamental to the success of the film.
Find out how Bertelmann and Baxter collaborated closely on A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE in this seventeen minute interview, which includes The Lab Mag's Cabinet of Curiosities, a selection of their inspirations and favourite things.
Enjoy.
