MONDAY june 30TH
Join us FOR A LECTURE
FORM + ARCHITECTURE
IF BUILDINGS COULD TALK
Warrior | Monkey | God. Rajasthan, India by Dhiren Dasu
Dhiren Dasu is a digital media artist challenging what we see and how we see. His work has a very particular aesthetic, and offers a commentary on architecture that is both humorous and fascinating. Join us for an evening with Dasu as he talks about his process and his work, breaking down the form of buildings with genuine mind-bending originality.
Notable projects include collaborations with Penny Slinger including Christian Dior set design. Film and animation collaborations with Derek Boshier.
“The works in this series were created from my travel photographs. The entities that arose from these photo collages reveal the nature of the places and the people who created them. The works in Simulacre look like faces—human, android, robot, or animal. In the words of René Magritte from his epochal work The Treachery of Images, “Ceci n’est pas une pipe.” My works are juxtapositions of inanimate architecture and objects. It takes a viewer to complete the artifice of sentience.”
Dhiren Dasu - from the introduction to his book Simulacre.
