Louise Bourgeois is one of the most inspiring female artists of our age. Her giant spiders dominate the landscape in a way that terrorizes the subconscious. For many, she was less well known for her work as an outstanding printmaker. Bourgeois took great delight in the process and built a friendship with her collaborator the printmaker Felix Harlan. Jerry Grorovoy, her former studio assistant who now runs her foundation gives us a striking insight into her process and the exceptional artist she was.
As stated in the film’s description, the duo “reflect on their frequent collaboration with the artist, characterized by an almost daily exchange of ideas and techniques. Their experience with Bourgeois was particularly noteworthy due to the striking parallel between the artist's creative process, marked by the repetitive layering and unearthing of emotional motifs and memories, and the meticulous, piecemeal physical layering process to printmaking.”
Hauser & Wirth is an international contemporary and modern art gallery with spaces in Zurich, London, Somerset, New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Gstaad, St. Moritz, Monaco and Menorca.
