Something astonishing has been happening in the Californian desert... a giant camera has been built and the biggest ambrotype in the world created in the harshest imaginable conditions. Come and watch the film and then hear directly from the people who made this happen, how it was done and the intricacies of creating art in such formidable circumstances.

Actor and photographer GARY OLDMAN visited wet plate artist IAN RUHTER to take pictures for the latest issue of The Laboratory Arts Collective Magazine - BUILD.  The result of this profound meeting was documented by LAUREN VANCE in the short film The Carnival of Dreams. One of the films producers, writer & art curator GISELE SCHMIDT wrote a personal essay about this serendipitous meeting for the magazine.  All four will be attending the screening and will take part in a Q & A being moderated by Nigel Daly.

And for those of you who want more... Lauren Vance, the director continues to document Ian's work and the people of slab city in the feature film THE PICTURE SHOW, due out next year.  And the word on the street is Ian's going bigger in wet plate size... It gives us shivers... We can't wait!
