Las Pozas, Mexico - A Garden of Earthly delight

las pozas

A garden of concrete and pools.

Created by surrealist Edward James, an English gentleman, his friend Plutarco Gastelum and a local carpenter Jose Aguilar, the garden of earthly delights is one of the finest in the world.

A subtropical paradise deep in the mountainous Sierra Gorda rainforest in Mexico is the lush garden of natural pools fed by waterfalls and surreal concrete sculptures that reach out of jungle into the sky. Staircases going nowhere embracing ruination. Dust to dust. Ashes to ashes. The earth is calling.

A folly of the imagination, Las Pozas is a welcome antidote to our blistering cities filled with smog and steel. It is a marriage between one of man’s favourite building materials, concrete, and mother nature’s open arms. Somehow, here in the jungle, the concrete is softer and fits in as though a symbol of our fading footprint… soon we’ll all be gone.
